DFR in a nutshell:
We aim for serious, mature roleplay survival in a realistic dark fantasy world inspired by the lore of Fall from Heaven II. We have 4 main races with MCMMO and Heroes offering 129 possible tier6 combinations of race dependent combat classes and 3 tier6 professions. For a settlement to be self-sufficient it only needs 3 characters with the tier8 professions: Enchanter, Engineer and Forgemaster!
A dedicated plugin set offers a.o.: Towny, a precious things economy and many realism enhancing features. We also have a trusted rank system offering perks for our most dedicated players, who rankup though playing, voting and/or donating.
On March 10 we have opened a dream world for all to join called Somnium during alpha. On June 6th we declared beta phase and on September 21st we launched a new and bigger (16k*16k!) carefully selected vanilla seeded map for Somnium. Check out our Live Map @ play.dawnfirerealms.net:8123/# !
Somnium is the world where you all (Souls) can enjoy the experience of our plugin set and the enlightening presence of the other community members, moderators (Guardians) and administrators (Seraphs). All players will start in a spawn town, Astarte, on Somnium.
We are creating a huge (32k*32k!) custom designed map for our mortal world Vesperus. That will be whitelisted and requires a dedicated character bio. Whitelisted players (Mortals) wil be allowed to travel there through Nemesis. Somnium will not be disbanded and will remain non-whitelisted and a training ground for both roleplay and survival.
Since Somnium launch we have build a decent roleplayer base, we have significantly expanded our staff team and build a decent plugin set that supports realistic immersive roleplay survival.
On Sept. 21st we launched a new Somnium Vanilla seeded map of 16k*16k!
… and much of Somnium is still uncolonized (April 13th 2015)!
Players that haven’t played since before Sept. 21st haven’t lost anything. Their characters can stuff their inventories with all their valuables and do /spawn to start in the new Somnium world.

Minecraft Worlds
The original Updawg world was created in 2011. Since then it has been built up, updated, upgraded, expanded and revamped. Don’t worry, there is still plenty of land near the spawn for the taking! Although the original Updawg world is still very much alive, many other worlds have been added and our players are able to portal from one to the next. To accommodate many times of players there are PVP and Non-PVP worlds and you may freely portal between them on the same server. All worlds at this time are Survival style worlds. We run several mods to assist players in their gaming experience. The full list of mods can be found below. There is an in game tutorial to help you understand how to use the mods that are running on the Updawg server. There is something different we do with the Updawg server that seems to set us apart from other Minecraft servers. From time to time we go in to a Temporary Chaos period. You can read more about this below.
MODS
The mods that we have selected are mainly for player use. This includes line-of-sight teleportation, warping, in game mail, currency system, multiple worlds, block protection, chest protection, and much more. We even have a mod that will allow us to import builds from other maps. Simply speak with an admin about getting your builds from other worlds pasted in to the Updawg world! Here is the list of mods currently in use:

— WorldEdit (copy/paste blocks from other maps, admins only)
— WorldGuard (block and chest protection)
Temporary Chaos
Whenever a large update for Minecraft is release, it takes time for the mod developers to update the mods we are using. Sometimes this takes weeks. We could wait to enjoy the content that was provided by the Minecraft update but we don’t. Instead we start a Temporary Chaos period. During this time our Updawg worlds are backed up and put aside. We launch a brand new world that is fully up-to-date with the new Minecraft release so we can enjoy all the new content and start acquiring all the new items. PVP is enabled, there is no block protection for your builds, and we do not run any mods while the Temporary Chaos period is active. During this time you are allowed to kill other players freely and steal from their chests if you can find them. This is a great time to put all of your trap building skills in to good use. Once the mod developers release their updates we then update the Updawg worlds and bring them back online. There will be a warp in the “Nexus” that will allow you to travel from the Updawg worlds back to the Temporary Chaos world so that you are able to gather up everything you acquired and bring it all back to the Updawg worlds. Don’t forget to do this because whenever we start a Temporary Chaos period, the previous Temporary Chaos world is deleted. So go kill, loot, and HIDE!

Do you remember the good old days of classic survival servers? You know, the times where people got to enjoy Minecraft for what it was, without all the bloatware and corporatism you see today?
I made this server because I feel nostalgic of what good survival servers used to be like, especially in the mid-2010s. I remember how happy I was as a kid to log onto a server to play survival with friends. Things were simple, straightforward, and most importantly, fun.
I want to recreate the same joy I felt back then in this server, by solving the 3 main problems I see with survival servers (and honestly, all servers in general) nowadays:
#1. A completely non-pay-to-win system that allows players to earn ranks. Not separate “earnable” ranks, but actual ranks with all the benefits.
#2. A balanced and regulated player-based economy that uses actual data to avoid abuse and inflation, supplemented by fair income sources.
#3. A prioritization of quality over quantity. I see too many SMPs trying to be “unique” by doing ironically common things like quests, dungeons, and earth maps. I think the best way is to improve upon existing, necessary features that work well together, instead of adding so many conflicting features that never get finished.
